There are two types of Prescale, they are two-sheet type and mono-sheet type. Two-sheet type is composed of two polyester bases (A film and C film). A-film is coated with a layer of micro-encapsulated colour forming material, while the C-film is coated with a layer of colour-developing material. By overlapping the coated side of the two films face to face, when pressure is applied, the microcapsules are broken and the color-forming material reacts with the colour-development material. Red patches then appear on the film.

Mono-sheet type is composed of a polyester base on which the colour-development material is coated and the mico-encapsulated colour forming material layered on top.

By checking the density of the colour, the pressure distribution can be found. The pressure analyzing system can be used to obtain precise pressure values.
