Appearance:colourless liquid with an aniseed smell
Properties:Isolated from rind of Persea Gratissima Garth, and from Oil of Estragon; found in oils of Russian Anise, Basil, Fennel, Turpentine, and others ( FCTXAV Food and Cosmetics Toxicology. 14 (1976),601. ). Colorless to sltly yellow liquid; anise odor. Bp: 102° at 16 mm, d: 0.960–0.968, refr index: 1.519–1.524, flash p: 178°F. Sol in alc; insol in water.
Occurrence:In tarragon oil, basil oils, anise bark oil, and others.
